SITE HISTORY

SEPTEMBER 3, 1998
Original Reel Canadian Movie Critic Logo, designed by FranclyGraphic.comI registered ReelCanadian.com, which stood for Reel Canadian Movie Critic. When I mentionned the URL to one of my co-workers at Industry Canada, she asked me: "Is it a site about fishing?". Thanks Ros.

MAY 19, 1999
ReelCanadian.com received a record 1738 unique visitors in a single day, thanks to a small section dedicated to "Star Wars: Episode I". During the month, the site received more than 31,000 unique visitors and served more than 100,000 page views. Not bad for a small site.

SEPTEMBER 7, 1999
I moved from Ottawa to Montreal and I changed jobs. I updated the site from time to time, but didn't add any reviews for a long while.

MARCH 24-26, 2000
The Canuck Site of the DayReelCanadian.com received the prestigious "Canuck site of the day" award, for its coverage of the 72nd Academy Awards. Unfortunately, Maple Square has since discontinued this feature.

FEBRUARY 20, 2001
After a one-year unintentional break, I finally began taking care of my site again! The site has a brand new look, which was desperately needed.

The new design makes heavy use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and Server Side Includes (SSI) for easier maintenance.

I have removed the sections about "Star Wars" and the Academy Awards (Oscars). I don't have time to create enough content for these sections and there are excellent sites about these subjects.

MARCH 16, 2001
I bought the MovieCritic.ca domain name! I will rebrand my site to put that great name to good use.

Although I really liked ReelCanadian.com, that name led to some confusion, because I always had to spell it out and explain what it meant. MovieCritic.ca will also fare much better with the search engines, as it contains better keywords.

MAY 22, 2001
To answer the growing demand for movie posters, MovieCritic.ca is now a proud affiliate of AllPosters.com.

JULY 24, 2001
I attented my first Press Screening ever (for Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes), thanks to the wonderful people at FilmCan, which offers movie theatre schedules for theatres across Canada.
