FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do you speak French?

A: Yes. It's my mother tongue.

Q: Can I become a movie critic for your site?

A: I'm not currently looking for contributors for my site. The purpose of this site is to share my opinion about movies I have seen.

Q: Can I copy/link/borrow content or images from your site?

A: It depends for what purpose. Please contact me before you do it.

Q: Could you add a link to my site?

A: I'll take your request under consideration. If I feel that your site would be interesting for my visitors, I would be glad to do so. Please check out my Links page.

Q: How can I advertise on your site?

A: Sure. Contact Burst! Media for more information.

Q: How come you didn't like [INSERT MOVIE TITLE HERE]?

A: Hmmm... Could it be that we don't have the same taste in movies? There's also the possibility that I just didn't "get" the movie. I've even gone as far as to give certain "classics" a low rating if I didn't enjoy them! While I can appreciate that certain movies were enjoyed by a lot of people, that doesn't mean that I have to like them as well.

Q: How come you don't have more Canadian films rated?

A: I'm ashamed to say that I don't get to see a lot of Canadian movies. For one, they're not as common as American movies. Also, they tend to be shown in fewer venues, and for a shorter amount a time. However, whenever I hear good "buzz" about a Canuck movie, I try to make a point of seeing it, be it in theatres or on video.

Q: How come you haven't rated [INSERT MOVIE TITLE HERE]?

A: Most likely, because I haven't seen it. It could also be because I don't remember it (such as movies that I have seen as a kid).

Q: I have to do a school project. Can you help me?

A: I might be able to guide you to specific information on the Web, but I will not do your homework for you! That's one of the pleasures of being a graduate!

Q: What makes you qualified to be a movie critic?

A: Technically, nothing. However, I've had a deep love of movies for as long as I can remember, and I also enjoy sharing this passion with others. That's why I consider myself to be an amateur movie critic.

Q: How can I become a movie critic?

A: See movies. Write reviews. Repeat if necessary.

Q: How can I get a job in the movie industry?

A: I have no idea. I live in Montreal, not Hollywood. However, you can check out About.com's page on how the entertainment industry works.

Q: How are movies rated in Canada?

A: This is the most frequent question I am asked. Check out media-awareness.ca.

Q: How are movies rated in the United States?

A: They are rated on a voluntary basis by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America). Check out mpaa.org.

Q: I once saw a Canadian film. Do you know what the title is?

A: This is the second most frequent question I am asked. I don't mind helping you finding a movie title, but you have to help me. Give me as much info as you can: name of director or actors, approximate year of release, plot, genre, etc.

Q: Where can I find a list of Canadian-made films?

A: At the Internet Movie Database.

Q: Where can I find the top grossing movies of a particular year?

A: There are many sources: The Internet Movie Database, Box Office Guru, BoxOfficeReport.com, and ShowBIZ Data, just to name a few.

Q: Where can I find a copy of [INSERT MOVIE TITLE HERE]?

A: If the movie is still being distributed, try Amazon.com or any other store. If it's out of stock, try a secondhand service such as Half.com.

Q: Where can I find information about the Oscars (Academy Awards)?

A: Oscar.com, Oscar.org or search with Google.

Q: Where can I find a review of [INSERT MOVIE TITLE HERE]?

A: If you didn't find it on my site, I suggest you try the Internet Movie Database. Once you've found the page for the movie, click on "external reviews" in the left-hand column.

What's new?

I'm currently rebuilding my site with PHP and MySQL (thanks to the wonderful Web Database Applications with PHP & MySQL book). The new design should be up within a few weeks (with more movie reviews which I've included in the database).
